When you order your Christmas Greenery online through Brant Florist you can be assured you get the freshest, greenest, live greenery and that is the biggest of the tips I have for you. Starting with fresh live greenery is important in their longevity.
When your beautiful Christmas greenery is delivered, avoid placing it in locations here it is exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time or heat. This will help extend it’s life by reducing drying factors of the sun and heat.
Spray indoor wreaths, garland, swags, and other greenery with a hand held mister once on a weekly basis. If you have no other option then to place your Christmas greenery in direct sunlight, mist it at least twice a week. It is best to water/mist your greenery with spring or well water. Chlorinated water can actually dry the greenery out somewhat. When your Christmas flower arrangements contain Christmas greenery, pay close attention to water level. Christmas greens are greedy and will suck up all the water fast; make sure the flowers are getting their fair share!
I wondered why misting my wreaths didn’t work. I knew I had read somewhere that it needed to be lightly sprayed once or twice a week. Either the article did not specify, or I forgot, that you were not supposed to use chlorinated water. I’ll be ready for next season.
Would non chlorinated water be better for a Christmas tree too? And how about misting? I guess if you have water at the base of the tree you wouldn’t have to mist it too. I love reading your articles and having a chance to see all of the beautiful flowers and plants.
I sure wish I had known that when I bought my wreath on the 10th of December. This year I will chalk it up to ignorance. Forwarned is forarmed and next year I will know how to keep my greenery fresh until I take it down. Thank you so much for all of the lessons I have learned on your site.
A day late and a dollar short seems to be the motto of my life. I misted my swag and wreath from the day I hung it and it almost seemed like I was killing it rather than refreshing it with the water. Now, I understand why. That’s exactly what I was doing. We have well water but add chlorine to it. Next time I’ll buy the water I use for misting to make sure there is no chlorine added. Thanks for the tip.
I just took our Christmas Swag down from the front of our home and thanks to your ideas of keeping it fresh, it looked almost as good as it did the day we hung it.
Too late for this year but forwarned is forarmed and I’ll be ready for next year.
